In the UK, Uber Eats will deliver food using Starship’s sidewalk robots.

Uber Eats and Starship Technologies, a sidewalk delivery robot company, have partnered to deliver food in the United Kingdom later this year.

The service will begin in the Leeds and Sheffield areas “from select merchants” in December and grow from there. According to Uber, it will reach “additional European markets in 2026” and the United States in 2027.

The collaboration with Starship is the most recent of Uber’s growing number of alliances with autonomous vehicle firms of various sizes.

However, Starship is not the first sidewalk robot firm to collaborate with Uber Eats. For a few years, Serve Robotics’ robots have been deployed by Uber’s food delivery division in the United States. Earlier this year, Uber also began utilizing Avride’s sidewalk robots.

Nearly 3,000 of Starship’s six-wheeled delivery robots are reportedly in use in more than 270 different places worldwide. The robots usually travel little more than two miles and complete deliveries in less than thirty minutes.

The robots of San Francisco-based Starship Technologies will operate at Level 4 autonomy, which implies it can operate within a specified area without human assistance.
