Facebook Updates Its Mobile Apps’ Video Player, Adding New Controls and a Consistent Full-Screen Mode

The well-known social networking giant Facebook is updating its mobile apps’ video player. Users won’t have to deal with several full-screen settings and watching experiences for various types of videos with this update. On the app right now, users may view Reels, lengthy films, and live videos. Longer videos and live videos open in a half-screen view with comments at the bottom, whereas Reels open in a vertical full-screen format. Facebook has officially updated its video player to resolve this issue.

“We’re introducing an updated video player on Facebook that brings together Reels, longer videos, and Live content all in one fullscreen, engaging experience,” the announcement reads in a post published to Meta newsroom on Wednesday. In the upcoming months, the redesigned video player will be available everywhere, starting in the US and Canada for iOS and Android. In the upcoming months, it will make its way to other areas.

Facebook is essentially providing one constant full-screen option for all types of videos. Users will be able to see all videos in full screen vertical mode after the update launches. The video player that the company has developed appears to be modeled around Instagram’s Reels. The uploader’s name appears at the bottom of the screen, followed by the video description, and users can choose to like, comment, share, and send it to a contact on Messenger on the right side of the vertical screen.

You can see the longer videos in landscape mode, even if they might not be vertically aligned. According to Facebook, when users open most horizontal movies in full screen mode, an icon to change the orientation will appear, allowing them to switch to landscape mode. The social media company is also providing improved controls for navigating through the videos.

Centrally located icons will allow users to pause the video and fast-forward or rewind ten seconds. By adjusting the bottom slider, users will also have more precise control over where they want to jump in the film. The post also stated that the recommendation system is being redesigned in conjunction with these upgrades. The user’s interests will inform the recommendations. The post went on, “We may recommend a Reel giving you inspiration for a quick, daily makeup routine or a longer tutorial video on DIY house improvements from experienced homeowners,”
