Vivo launches X100 Ultra with 200MP Periscope camera.

The newest model of the X100 and X100 Pro series, which was unveiled in China in November 2023, is the Vivo X100 Ultra. The X100 Ultra is intended to be the new flagship model in the series and a photography beast, as the rumors had suggested.

Similar to the Vivo X100 Pro, the Ultra’s primary sensor is a 50-megapixel 1-inch Sony LYT-900, but it also has a 200-megapixel telephoto camera with an 85mm focal length and 3.7x optical image stabilization. Its 20x zoom range preserves image detail, surpassing even the 5x optical zoom on the telephoto lens of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

In addition to a 50MP front-facing camera for video chats and selfies, the other back camera is a 50MP ultrawide with a 14mm focal length and 116-degree field of vision.
In many respects, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Oppo Find X7 Ultra—which have two telephoto lenses to enable the phones to take pictures and videos at similar focal lengths—rather than Samsung are the Vivo X100 Ultra’s true rivals. Additionally, Vivo allows for the shooting of both still and motion pictures at comparable focal lengths, all without the need for two telephoto lenses. Vivo does a really cool trick here where their camera array has a “floating” architecture that allows you to take macro pictures at various focal lengths.

There are five focal length options available: 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. Additionally, the aperture may be adjusted between f/0.95 and f/16.
The X100 Ultra camera is capable of more. It offers all the features you would anticipate in terms of video capabilities: 4K cinematic portrait video (which is the same as the Pro), slow-motion video at 4K/120 frames per second (fps), Dolby Vision video at 4K/60 fps, 3D picture and video capture, and a new monochrome color profile.
Underwater photography is arguably the most intriguing feature of the phone’s camera. According to Vivo, the phone can capture better underwater images by adjusting for green tones, murkiness, and silt. This means that in addition to the crystal-clear waters that the Caribbean and Maldives are known for, you can also capture underwater photos in murky ponds and swamps.

Although it is IP69 certified and can shoot at 40 meters (131 ft) deep, it would need a third-party diving cover.
In regards to third-party cases, there is also a camera photography kit that effectively transforms the phone into a DSLR camera.
Lastly, in terms of hardware, the X100 Ultra is nothing short of remarkable. A 6.8-inch OLED QHD+ screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU that is included with the device.
Additionally, you get a 5,500mAh battery, which on paper seems like it should last all day, even though using a camera frequently drains batteries quickly. Additionally, there is 30W wireless fast charging and 80W wired fast charging.

Lastly, the phone runs Android 14 (OriginOS 4) and has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in addition to capabilities for two-way satellite communication.

Regarding cost and availability, you’d probably not be pleased to learn that the phone is only available in China at the moment. The base 12GB RAM/256GB storage model costs 6,499 Chinese Yuan (about $898), the 16GB RAM/512GB storage model costs 7,299 Yuan ($1,009), and the 16GB RAM/1TB storage variant costs 7,999 Yuan. Space Gray, White, and Titanium will be the color options.
