Due to audio problems, certain iPhone owners may be entitled to a $349 lawsuit settlement.

A $35 million compensation may be available to some owners of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

A 2019 lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California offers up to $349 in compensation to owners of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus who experienced problems with the audio chip.

Customers must have had those devices between September 16, 2016, and January 3, 2023, and either paid for a repair or reported to Apple about a problem, such as a malfunctioning voice memo app, FaceTime, loudspeaker, or Siri.

The Settlement Administration website says Apple rejected all claims of wrongdoing and said the devices did not have these problems.

The audio chip, which controls sound output from speakers or headphones, was the source of the problem. Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 models in September 2016 in order to improve water resistance, design, and sound quality.

Users who meet the requirements may get an email or postcard regarding the settlement. June 3 is the last day to submit a claim on the website. July 18 is the set date for the final approval hearing.

There have been other litigation settlements in the past involving the iPhone 7 variants. Customers of Apple who bought the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, or SE before December 21, 2017, were eligible to receive $25 as part of the company’s settlement of a class action lawsuit against the company for allegedly forcing customers to upgrade to the newest iPhone model by slowing down older devices with system upgrades.
